At 14:01 hours the general tones sounded requesting an Engine and Rescue to respond mutual aid to 85 Grant Avenue in Cresskill for a working attic fire. Engine 3 and the Rescue were in service seconds after dispatch. En route to the fire Cresskill Chief Ulshoefer requested Engine 3 to hit a hydrant and lay in. Once on scene Cresskill Command requested Engine 3 to stretch an attic line into the attic to assist in extinguishment. Engine 3’s crew met up with members from Cresskill and Tenafly FD and assisted in fire attack. Rescue 3’s crew was detailed to begin opening up the second floor searching for areas of fire and knocking them down. Crews in the attic were confronted with heavy fire conditions that had begin to burn through the roof. An aggressive attack was made on the fire bringing it under control within a half hour. Also on scene from Dumont was Chief Byrd (Command Post) and Assistant Chief Molinaro (Interior). Engine 3 and the Rescue were back in service by 16:00 hours.
